Sodium Lauroyl Lactylate is most frequently used as a surfactant and emulsifier in personal care products. It is an excellent skin moisturizer and adds foam to formulations. It is basically a salt derived from the lauric acid ester of lactyl lactate.

The Cosmetics Database has not yet reviewed this ingredient and we have found no studies reporting on potentially negative side effects. However, this ingredient is a penetration enhancer and as such, should be used only when the accompanying ingredients in the product are considered safe and non-toxic.
